The industrial combustion engineering company E&M Combustion plans to carry out new equipment investments in its plant in Artea, Vizcaya (Spain), to strengthen its competitiveness. Among these projects is the implementation of a welding robot, in order to optimize the welding process line, through improving the precision and welding speed of the equipment.

The project to implement a welding robot responds to the strategic objective of moving towards the automation of its welding process, and is aimed at optimizing its productivity and subsequent competitiveness in the market.

Implementation of a Welding Robot

Among the advantages provided by robotic welding compared to manual welding, the robustness and precision of the process stand out, which ensures uniformity in all welds, without quality variations in the results.

Despite not carrying out long manufacturing series in the plant, the robotic welding system is intended to achieve greater productivity at E&M Combustion due to its continuous operation 24 hours a day without interruptions, which shortens delivery times. Additionally, robotic welding automates tasks and reduces worker exposure to hazardous fumes, intense heat or radiation generated during the process, thereby improving safety and reducing the risk of injury to personnel

Reference in hydrogen projects

Regarding the prospects for the year 2024, the Basque company continues to take steps in its vision of becoming a benchmark in projects and plants that use hydrogen as fuel from 2024 and 2025, replacing other mature fuels such as gas. or diesel.

In this area, the company has developed a computing R&D project, together with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), to design hydrogen burners. The European R&D&i project has led to the creation of fluid-dynamic computational modeling software for hydrogen burners, through the use of High Performance Computing (HPC).

The project has allowed the development of a virtual testing platform for industrial burners, which use HPC technology in order to obtain quantitative and qualitative information on combustion performance, in terms of flame dynamics, contaminant formation and operability. of hydrogen burners. The software will be in charge of simulating, predicting and validating on the computer the parameters of the hydrogen combustion conditions with which the equipment will operate, and will do so with the highest degree of reliability.

In turn, with regard to the oil and gas industry, to which E&M Combustion supplies specific burners, expectations for equipment renewal continue to drive demand for equipment used in process heating (heaters), especially in the Southeast Asia region and particularly India. These geographic areas maintain their interest in the development of modernization projects and replacement of equipment in their refineries. E&M Combustión is specialized in the design, manufacture and supply of specific combustion equipment and systems for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX Zones).

Technological differences

E&M Combustion covers the entire value chain of combustion systems, from design and manufacturing to commissioning and global technical services. The company develops industry-specific solutions for the use of hydrogen as fuel, as well as biogas, biomass and other alternative fuels.
