E&M Combustión  has begun manufacturing combustion air preheaters and tank structures in its workshop, which will soon be installed in a paper and cardboard factory.

The project’s objective is to improve energy efficiency at the company’s thermal facilities by reducing fuel consumption in production processes and polluting emissions, thereby improving the plant’s energy efficiency.

Following the design phase, the manufacturing of the combustion air preheaters is being finalized at the company’s workshop in Artea, where the fabrication of the necessary tank structures has also begun.

Combustion air preheaters

E&M Combustion designs combustion air preheaters that allow heat transfer from the outgoing combustion gases to the fresh air, which then re-enters the burner or combustion chamber. In addition to saving energy, these devices reduce polluting emissions and chimney outlet temperatures, are easy to maintain, and do not affect the operation of boilers or furnaces.

The company’s SICAPH combustion air preheaters are designed to operate with all types of fuels, from diesel and fuel oil to biomass, pellets, coal, natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen. Upon customer request, these preheaters can also be equipped with automatic cleaning systems, thermal insulation, and instrumentation equipment, among other improvements.

Their design seeks to balance parameters such as minimum pressure drop, to avoid clogging the system’s draft by both flue gas and feed, and to achieve the maximum possible turbulence to achieve energy efficiency above the usual average for these systems. The equipment also has a low weight and great solidity.

Operation of air preheaters

The purpose of these units is to allow fresh air to circulate through the interior of the tubes, while exhaust gases circulate through the smoke chamber. The fresh air conduction tubes are finned, which increases exhaust gas turbulence and the unit’s heat exchange surface. These finned fresh air tubes are configured in-line and in compact blocks to achieve a high heat transmission coefficient. Thus, they significantly reduce exhaust gas temperature.

The combustion air preheaters designed by E&M Combustion also incorporate a Flue Gas Recirculation (FGR) system and JBD hot air burners, which reduces NOx emissions. The advantage of this system developed by E&M Combustión is that it uses a single duct to achieve these results.
