E&MC will modernize the Karolin heating power plant in Poznan, Poland

E&M Combustion, engineering company specialized in the development of Combustion Technologies for the industrial sector, has been awarded the supply of 20 industrial burners for the modernization of the Karolin Power Heating Plant in Poznan, Poland. The manufacturing and assembly process will be extended throughout this year in order to cope with the weather conditions from next winter.

The equipment of the company E&M Combustión is aimed at improving the efficiency of the boilers, by replacing the current burners of Russian origin that use fuel oil as fuel. The project will thus contribute to reducing current emission levels to adapt to the challenge that the Government of Poland has undertaken to improve environmental emissions.

Modernization of Karolin Heating Power

The power unit is composed of two 150 MW thermal superheated water boilers and 10 burners, respectively.

The District Heating Power Plant Karolin is operated by the French multinational Veolia Energia Polska. According to the company’s impact report on this country, the results in the environment since 2002 show an average emission reduction of 30% CO2, 81% sulfur dioxide and 84% NOx

Emission reduction

To proceed with the modernization of this installation, E&M Combustion will manufacture 20 JBD-17,000 LO AA burners, which will use diesel as fuel, improving performance and reducing plant emissions. It is a model of burners that incorporate, in this project, an auxiliary system of atomization by compressed air and allow low NOx emissions.

E&M Combustion will deliver the first phase of the equipment between March and April of this year, and the second phase, towards the end of July. After the cold start of the installation to check the operation, the start-up will take place next winter, since then protecting the inhabitants of Poznan from the inclement weather. On the other hand, the Polish company Ecoenergia will carry out the assembly and commissioning of the installation, after the signing of the agreement recently reached between both companies.

Poznan is located west of Poland. It is the fifth population with about 570,000 inhabitants and has become an industrial center with the presence of large companies such as Volkswagen, MAN, Unilever, Bridgestone, Lafarge or ABB, among others.
