The Spanish engineering and manufacturing company E&M Combustion has recently obtained contracts for the supply of equipment for the oil and gas industry in Kuwait, Nigeria and Iraq. The combustion equipment developed by the company will be designed to operate in critical areas, classified as potentially dangerous areas, and will be used in hydrocarbon production processes.

Thus, in Kuwait, E&M Combustion has been awarded the industrial burners specifically designed for the Jurassic Park Facilities Project (JPF4), a project under development that aims to produce 50,000 barrels of crude oil per day and a volume of 150 million standard cubic feet per day (mscf) of gas.

The JPF4 Project belongs to the state-owned Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), responsible for exploring, developing and producing the country’s hydrocarbon resources since 1934. For this installation, the burners supplied by E&M Combustion will have two fans necessary to light the heater of glycol, a compact unit manufactured by a leading Arab company in the execution of process packages.

The development project is led by the Kuwaiti contractor Spetco International Petroleum, in charge of leading its development for a figure close to 500 million dollars, after being awarded said works in competition with nine other international and local conglomerates, specialized in this area of work. . This company will also be in charge of carrying out the operation and maintenance of the facility for a period of five years.

The development facility known as JP4 is located near the Sabriyah well in northern Kuwait. In said complex, both the tests, as well as the processing, treatment and handling of sour and wet hydrocarbon well fluids from multiple oil and gas fields will be carried out. These wells include the aforementioned Sabriyah field, as well as the Raudhatain, Northwest Raudhatain, Um,-Niqa, Dhebi, Bahra and Marrat and Najmah-Sarjelu fields, and other formations located in the Jurassic fields.

When the facility is complete, the complex will have the capacity to produce 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) of treated sweet crude (Jurassic light oil with a gravity of 40°-50°, according to the classification of the American Petroleum Institute – API), and 150 million standard cubic feet (MScf) of light and dehydrated gas daily.

Likewise, the facility incorporates a water treatment unit and a sulfur recovery unit, as well as associated services and support systems.

The development of the production facility will be carried out on the surface and will be commissioned by the contractor under the build-own-operate (BOO) modality, with the option of acquisition by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) at a future date.

Kuwait is tapping Jurassic carbonate deposits in the north of the country to meet growing gas consumption. The state-owned company KOC began gas production from its Jurassic sour gas field in May 2008, with the start-up of the Early Production Facility 50 exploration and production project.

Oil projects in Iraq and Nigeria

On the other hand, in Iraq, E&M Combustion will design and manufacture an integrated fuel rail and burner system, to comply with NFPA 87 safety standards, aimed at heating 40 m3 of circulating thermal fluid pumped at a constant flow rate through pumping hot oil. The system will have a skid that regulates the constant flow of heated oil in said pumping system and its expansion tank.

The installation supplied by E&M Combustion will be implemented on the two 30 MM Btu/hr dual heating systems, supplied by a specialist package manufacturer from the Middle East to Norway’s DNI for deployment in Iraq. These heaters are capable of operating with 5 types of fuels, in addition to diesel as backup.

Similarly, and for its implementation in Nigeria, the Spanish company dedicated to the development of “custom” combustion equipment, designs and manufactures a burner to operate in an oil exploitation facility in the country. The E&M Combustion burner placement will take place in an Indirect Bath Heater System, known as IDBH in the oil and gas industry.

E&M Combustion

E&M Combustion is highly specialized in this area of design and manufacture of specific “à la carte” equipment. The company has been working since its creation in 2004 in the oil and gas sector, to which it provides equipment for natural gas and crude oil heating applications, through processing technologies, aimed at improving the performance of facilities and eliminating the existence of liquids in the fluid.
