E&M Combustiónhas completed the commissioning of equipment for oil and gas heating applications for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in the Linch and Mehsana districts of Gujarat, India.
The Linch Modernization Project (LRDP) is an ambitious initiative to modernize onshore oil and gas facilities operated by the state-owned corporation ONGC in India’s westernmost state.
Specifically, the project focuses on upgrading the aging facilities at the Linch complex’s Group Gathering Station (GGS) by integrating new gas processing and treatment systems. The goal is to increase crude oil and natural gas production, improve recovery efficiency, and extend the operational life of the mature Linch fields. The scope of the operation has included various engineering, procurement, and civil work phases, covering site filling, compaction, and leveling to support the new facilities.
The recent commissioning of equipment designed by E&M Combustión for oil and gas heating applications marks the start-up of the facility, which is set to become a major oil and gas production hub. ONGC produces approximately 70% of the country’s crude oil and 60% of its natural gas.
This facility modernization and expansion operation is part of the Indian corporation’s “Energy Strategy 2040,” aimed at ensuring energy security and meeting the country’s demand. Under this framework, the Energy Strategy 2040 plan projects a doubling of oil and gas production and a threefold increase in revenue from upstream operations—the oil and natural gas exploration and production business.

For this project, E&M Combustión has designed, manufactured, and commissioned a total of ten ATEX-certified burners specifically for potentially explosive atmospheres. Six of these are JBM-HP 4,500 G EX monoblock units—featuring 4.128 MW of power—along with two burners from the same family rated at 3.754 MW for the Sobhasan and Linch sites, and two JBD 4,500 G EX duoblock burners rated at 3.949 MW for operation at Linch. All units are designed to operate with a wide range of fuel compositions (methane, butane, pentane, carbon dioxide).
The equipment designed for this oilfield optimization project has been installed in critical zones subject to ATEX safety classifications for potentially explosive areas. They will operate in thermal treatment units designed to enhance well production—specifically in indirect bath heater (IDBH) applications—aimed at heating high-viscosity crude oil to reduce pumping pressure and increase efficiency.
Additionally, they will function in fluid-separation “Heater Treater” units to remove water molecules from the well stream before the fluid enters the pipeline for transport to the refinery. Other burners will be deployed in “Hot Oil Units,” which are responsible for removing water and heavy crude to prevent blockages in pipelines and flow lines.
Finally, some units will be allocated to the Gas Dehydration Unit (GDU), a critical component of the gas treatment system for both wellheads and pipelines.
