E&M Combustión has designed a multi-fuel burner for a rotary cement kiln. This burner is a JBM-HP model with a power output of 12 MW, which can operate on three types of fuel: natural gas, heavy fuel oil, and light fuel oil, in order to adjust its operation to the plant’s needs.
The burner design is aimed at calcining the clinker in the rotary kiln, a cylindrical, rotating industrial kiln used to process materials at high temperatures and crucial in cement manufacturing, as well as in other industrial activities such as mineral processing, chemical production, and waste management.
Operation of the rotary cement kiln
The constant movement of the rotary cement kiln allows for the uniform mixing and heating of raw materials as they slowly advance from the inlet to the outlet, using the heat generated by the combustion unit. The fuels used are burned in the rotary kiln’s burner to generate heat, which is then used to heat the raw materials as they move through the kiln.
E&M Combustion selected Termotim Sombor to carry out the installation and commissioning of the burner in the rotary cement kiln, due to their proven experience in this area. The equipment is now fully operational at the plant.
JBM-HP Burners
The JBM-HP family of burners, developed by E&M Combustion for each specific application, are compact monoblock units designed to operate with all types of liquid and gaseous fuels. The standard range includes burners for traditional fuels such as diesel, natural gas, fuel oil, and LPG, as well as gas-diesel and gas-fuel oil or hydrogen combination burners. The company also offers custom solutions for burning biogas, oils, recycled materials, and other alternative fuels.
These monoblock burners are designed to withstand high combustion chamber overpressures and achieve low NOx emissions. They also feature low noise levels thanks to a silencer on the fan’s air intake and come standard with electronic control units that allow the use of variable frequency drives for fan regulation and O2 sensors.
