E&M Combustion develops a containerized biogas boiler system to produce hot water, which will be used to heat the digester of a biogas plant in the town of Artajona, Navarra, and whose purpose is the production of biomethane.
This containerized biogas boiler system is part of a complete biogas production facility designed to produce biomethane using biogas upgrading technology from the Basque company FNX CycleØ. This company uses its own technology to process biogas generated from agricultural and livestock waste in rural areas to produce biomethane, a renewable gas used directly to decarbonize the transportation industry and the gas network.
Biogas upgrading is a purification process that removes carbon dioxide (CO₂) and other impurities from raw biogas to convert it into biomethane. This biomethane is then converted into a renewable gas with a high methane concentration, similar to natural gas, which can be injected into the gas network or used as a biofuel or liquefied for industrial applications.
The containerized biogas/biodiesel dual-fuel boiler and burner system designed by E&M Combustion forms a substantial part of the closed-loop hot water system that heats the digestate inside the digester. It adheres to the “plug & play” concept, with all combustion equipment pre-assembled in the container and ready for transport to its final destination and immediate operation in the field.
Containerized Biogas Boiler System
The system is equipped with a 250 kW dual-fuel boiler, capable of operating on both biogas and biodiesel at a pressure of 5.75 barg. It will be used to heat the digestate used for biogas generation.
The installation is completed with an EM 30 GLO modulating burner, which allows for switching between biodiesel and biogas. It also includes an electrical control panel with an ETC electronic programmer, responsible for controlling and regulating the burner, as well as the plate heat exchanger and auxiliary components. All equipment is housed in a 20-foot container, saving space and facilitating transport.
E&M Combustion
E&M Combustion is a Basque engineering and manufacturing company specializing in high-tech burners, tailored to the specific applications of each client in their industrial combustion processes. The company develops the most innovative combustion technologies to offer custom-made gas burners, oil burners, combination burners, and alternative fuel burners. E&M Combustion is an international leader in ATEX and NEC burners, hot gas generators, and combustion equipment for alternative fuels, such as hydrogen and biogas burners.
FNX CycleØ
The Biscayan company FNX CycleØ specializes in the design, production, and operation of integrated biogas treatment systems. The CycleØ group, of which FNX CycleØ is a part, promotes the construction of plants that use agricultural and livestock waste to produce biomethane, a renewable gas that can be used in transportation and for conventional gas applications. FNX CycleØ has developed its own gas upgrading and small- to medium-scale biomethane liquefaction technology, designing decentralized and scalable modular units to ensure maximum efficiency.
Biomethane offers a solution for the valorization and management of waste from the primary sector. It reduces costs and provides benefits to farmers, while also fostering rural development.
