E&M Combustión is delivering two combustion systems to modernize Pljevlja thermal power plant in Montenegro, as part of the technological upgrade process at the only coal-fired thermal power plant in the country. These systems will operate in the thermal plant’s auxiliary boilers, which are responsible for cleaning the turbine.

Currently, the engineering firm Termotim Sombor is carrying out the installation and start-up processes for the two systems, equipped with four JBM-HP fuel oil burners designed by E&M Combustion, which will operate at the thermal power plant alongside two 25 t/h boilers manufactured by TipoKotlogradnja.

This Pljevlja power plant belongs to the company Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, which has a capacity of 225 MW and is located in northern Montenegro, near the border with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is currently undergoing the renovation of its facilities to align with European Union regulations on particulate emissions, particularly with regard to nitrogen and sulfur.

The investment and construction project for the plant, which runs on lignite, is the responsibility of a consortium led by the Chinese company Dongfang Electric International Corporation. The company plans to complete the plant’s modernization before the end of the year.

The Spanish company E&M Combustión has manufactured and delivered the two auxiliary boiler combustion systems, designing and manufacturing four JBM-HP 11,500 FO low-emission (LOW NOx) burners. These burners will operate on fuel oil alongside the plant’s steam generators from the manufacturer TipoKotlgradna. The engineering firm Termotim Sombor is responsible for local contacts and is responsible for the installation and commissioning of the equipment.

The installation of the combustion systems supplied by E&M Combustion is completed with the pumping system, valve skids, gas ramps, and control systems. The developed combustion systems will also feature fuel preheating systems using an automatic degassing process, designed to improve energy efficiency.

The Pljevlja power plant belongs to the company Elektroprivreda Crne Gore. It is an integrated power plant adjacent to the nearby lignite mine, from which most of the coal used comes. The thermal plant supplies nearly half of the country’s electricity and is currently undergoing the upgrade of its facilities to maintain its operational capacity and extend its useful life beyond its operational life. The country has set the goal of transitioning to sustainable energy options. The modernization of the thermal plant is considered essential to ensure its energy reliability, especially in winter.

E&M Combustion
