The Spanish engineering company E & M Combustion, specialized in the development of Combustion Technologies, will participate in the process of expanding the production capacity and modernization of the oil and gas industry undertaken by India. The company has just been awarded three contracts to implement its industrial burners in the Indian refineries.

The largest of the orders corresponds to that reached to provide equipment to the State-owned company Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), which will operate in the Gujarat Project in Mehsana. Mehsana, in Gujarat, is ONGC’s largest on-land asset with 1,552 operational oil and gas wells that produce 6,000 tonnes of oil per day, and 5.3 lakh cubic metre gas a day. Likewise, E & M Combustion will design and manufacture “customized” other industrial burners destined for this same company, which will be put into operation in the Haryana Project, in Madanum. Finally, the last order corresponds to a burner for the company Cairn India, which will be installed in an oilfield under development in the region of Rajasthan.

Equipment for Oil and Gas Industry

The application of the burners for oil and gas industry will take place in the Hot Oil Unit (HOU) and in the Indirect Bath Heaters (IDBH) processes of the oil plants. In the latter case, the burners are installed in a water heater, in whose initial part, or primary circuit, water circulates at a very high temperature, while at the other end of the exchanger flows freshly extracted oil from the oil well. In this way, through the process of heating the oil, it is obtained an optimum density in order to transport it to the refinery with greater fluidity and use, through a network of pipes.

It is about the first operations reached by the company in the Indian market, after its implantation in this country. Iñigo Béjar, Managing Director of E & M Combustion highly appreciates the entry into this new market with large projects underway for development in industry manufacture and industrial infrastructures. The contract reached with the State owned ONGC is of great importance, since it creates a tendency in the supply strategy of Indian companies. Therefore, the company faces the challenge of installing and commissioning the equipment in an optimal way, which will facilitate participation in new projects in the country.

ATEX Burners

Along the second half of this year, E & M Combustion will supply this equipment for oil and gas industry under the ATEX certification directive (ATmosphere EXplosive), developed to operate in potentially explosive atmospheres, and which regulate the measures to guarantee safety and prevent an explosion from occurring. All bespoke combustion systems supplied will be adapted, according to the requirements demanded to the function of each burner. The characteristics vary as well as the capacities range from 1.2 MW to 9 MW of power.

“Custom manufacturing has been one of the main strengths of E & M Combustion, as well as the specialized offer of ATEX certified equipment,” says Ashish Halageri, delegate of E & M Combustion India. “E & M Combustion is one of the leading international design and manufacturing engineering companies in the burner segment for zones with anti-explosive classification, according to European ATEX or American NEC regulations. This type of burners are practically mandatory in industries such as refineries, petrochemical plants or electricity generation plants. The current demand is concentrated in such kind of ATEX equipment and our company is one of the few companies that offer this type of equipment and certificates.”
