Through this agreement, E&M Combustión strengthens its service offering, helping the industrial sector reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs, and improve the return on investments aimed at modernizing facilities.

As a partner to Iberdrola for the management of Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs, by their Spanish acronym), E&M Combustión provides a full-service approach: assessing the energy-saving potential of each facility, designing improvement plans, installing equipment, and carrying out the required work. Furthermore, the company handles the management of the CAEs associated with these interventions, in full compliance with the system’s technical and administrative requirements and in coordination with Iberdrola.

A comprehensive service to save energy and recover part of the investment

The key differentiator of this proposal is that it enables companies to approach the improvement of their energy efficiency from a comprehensive perspective, supported by professional technical expertise. E&M Combustión identifies opportunities to reduce consumption, proposes the most suitable technical solutions, coordinates their implementation, and manages the process required to transform the resulting energy savings into a source of financial return.

Potential initiatives include replacing industrial boilers with more energy-efficient equipment; modernizing and optimizing combustion systems; swapping out burners for low-NOx models; installing economizers and flue-gas heat recovery systems; recovering condensate and flash steam; and integrating advanced systems for the regulation, control, and monitoring of thermal processes—provided that these measures meet the requirements for generating Energy Saving Certificates (CAEs).

In this way, companies can benefit in two complementary ways: through the ongoing reduction of their energy bills and the potential to receive financial compensation for verified final energy savings.

Monetizing these savings can help recoup a portion of the initial investment, improve project profitability, and facilitate the implementation of further energy-efficiency initiatives.

Energy Savings Certificates: an opportunity for the industry

The Energy Saving Certificate (CAE) system, regulated by Royal Decree 36/2023 of January 24, allows for the verification of final energy savings achieved through energy efficiency measures and their conversion into tradable certificates.

Each CAE corresponds to 1 kWh of verified final energy savings. Industrial companies that implement energy efficiency measures can receive financial compensation by transferring these certifiable savings, provided that the established requirements are met. Meanwhile, electricity and gas suppliers—along with other obligated entities—can acquire these certificates to fulfill a portion of their legal energy-saving obligations. Consequently, for an industrial company, the benefit lies in monetizing energy savings and improving the return on investment; for obligated entities, it provides a mechanism to meet their energy-saving mandates (it does not, however, constitute an automatic tax deduction for the purchase of CAEs).

Furthermore, this mechanism creates new opportunities for industrial companies, which can factor the revenue generated from CAEs into the economic assessment of their modernization and energy efficiency projects.

In collaboration with Iberdrola, E&M Combustión will facilitate its clients’ access to this mechanism by coordinating the necessary technical actions and documentation required for managing the certificates.

The system may also allow for the recognition of savings from previously implemented measures, provided they meet the eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and timeframes stipulated by the applicable regulations. Therefore, each project must be evaluated on an individual basis before confirming whether it is eligible for CAEs.

Energy efficiency, competitiveness, and decarbonization

In a context where the optimization of energy costs is a key factor for industrial competitiveness, investing in more efficient equipment and improving thermal processes offers an opportunity to reduce consumption and move toward more sustainable production.

The combination of technological solutions, specialized studies, and the management of Energy Efficiency Certificates (CAEs) allows for the development of energy efficiency projects that account for both operational benefits and potential economic returns.

Through this collaboration, E&M Combustión expands the services offered to its industrial clients and reinforces its commitment to technological innovation, energy efficiency, and the reduction of the environmental impact of production processes.

E&M Combustion

E&M Combustión is an engineering company specializing in the design, development, and supply of industrial combustion solutions for various sectors and applications.
