This figure will serve to finance 31 projects, according to data published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/doe-to-accelerate-hydrogen-projects-with-52-5m\/\">Offshore Energy<\/a> on July 8, 2021. The projects will focus on closing technical gaps in technologies for the production, storage, distribution and use of hydrogen, including fuel cells. .<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/emcombustion.es\/en\/hidrogeno-limpio-de-proxima-generacion\/hidrogeno-verde\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment noopener wp-att-24660\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24660\" title=\"Next-generation clean hydrogen technologies - E&amp;M Combustion\" src=\"https:\/\/emcombustion.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/hidrogeno-verde.jpg\" alt=\"Next-generation clean hydrogen technologies - E&amp;M Combustion\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emcombustion.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/hidrogeno-verde.jpg 640w, https:\/\/emcombustion.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/hidrogeno-verde-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/emcombustion.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/hidrogeno-verde-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The projects are part of <strong>DOE&#8217;s Hydrogen Energy Earthshot initiative<\/strong>, which aims to lower costs and a<strong>ccelerate advancements in the next-generation clean hydrogen technologies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The financing includes an item of $ 36 million from the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), and another of $ 16.5 million from the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The next-generation clean hydrogen technologies throw initiatives supported by EERE <\/strong>include 19 projects related to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Electrolysis<\/span>, a process to produce hydrogen using electricity and water, with improved manufacturing methods and simplified assembly to reduce costs.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Clean hydrogen production<\/span>, including biological and electrochemical approaches.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Fuel cell subsystems and components<\/span> that are more efficient, durable and designed for heavy duty applications.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Components for the national hydrogen supply chain<\/span> and refueling technologies.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Analysis to evaluate the cost and performance<\/span> of fuel cell systems, hydrogen production pathways and hydrogen storage technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For its part, <strong>the initiatives supported by FECM<\/strong> include 12 projects on the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Mechanisms and pathways of degradation<\/span> in high temperature reversible solid oxide cell (SOC) materials that help evaluate cost, performance and durability metrics.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Performance, reliability and durability<\/span> for hydrogen production using reversible solid oxide cell (R-SOC) systems.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Cost reductions<\/span> through improvements in materials, manufacturing and microstructure improvements in R-SOC technologies for hydrogen production.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Initial engineering design of an advanced commercial-scale carbon capture<\/span>, utilization and storage (CCUS) system for steam methane reforming plants.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Initial engineering design of an advanced commercial-scale CCUS<\/span> system from autothermal methane reforming plants.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Development of a gas turbine combustion system<\/span> for 100 percent hydrogen and hydrogen-natural gas mixtures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cPart of our path to a net-zero-carbon future means investing in innovation to make clean energy sources like hydrogen more affordable and widely adopted so that we can meet our goal of net-zero-carbon emissions by 2050. These projects will serve as a step closer to unlocking the scientific breakthroughs necessary to create a<strong> strong national supply chain and high-paying jobs in the emerging clean hydrogen industry<\/strong>, \u201dsaid Energy Secretary <strong>Jennifer M. Granholm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For her part, US Representative <strong>Marcy Kaptur<\/strong> added: &#8220;Next-generation hydrogen projects, including fuel cells, will be critical to addressing the climate crisis and developing new industries here at home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClean hydrogen is a low-emission, flexible fuel with countless applications in all sectors of our economy. It will be vital to achieving clean energy goals, especially in some of the most difficult to clean sectors of the US economy, \u201dsaid US Representative <strong>Paul D. The objective of this initiative is to finance advanced technologies to improve the reliability of the performance and the flexibility of the methods to produce hydrogen.<\/p>\n<p>This measure is aimed at helping recalibrate the vast energy and fossil fuel infrastructure for the production of decarbonized energy and commodities in the country. According to cost data in a recent DOE \/ FE hydrogen strategy paper, fossil fuels are the least cost way to produce hydrogen. Low-cost hydrogen derived from fossil energy feedstocks and processes is expected to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of processes and enable progress towards net-zero carbon hydrogen production.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants to this funding program (FOA), DE-FOA-0002400, fall within the production, storage, transportation and utilization based on hydrogen fossil energy that approach <strong>net zero or net negative carbon emissions<\/strong>, and has aiming to make progress in the following areas of the program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Production of hydrogen with net zero or negative carbon from modular gasification and co-gasification of mixed waste, biomass and traditional raw materials.<\/li>\n<li>Development of solid oxide electrolysis cell technology (SOEC).<\/li>\n<li>Carbon capture<\/li>\n<li>Advanced turbines<\/li>\n<li>Hydrogen production from natural gas<\/li>\n<li>Hydrogen oil pipeline infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Underground hydrogen storage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The projects will be managed by the National Energy Technology Laboratory.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">&#8220;Port of Los Angeles shore to shore demonstration project&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The largest hydrogen project in the United States is the &#8220;Port of Los Angeles shore- to-shore demonstration project &#8221; <strong>estimated at 70 million dollars<\/strong> and led by the Port of Los Angeles. This<br \/>\nproject estimated in 70 M USD provides a larg-scale &#8220;shore-to-shore&#8221; plan and a hydrogen fuel -cell-electric technology framework for freight facilities to structure operations for future goods movement.<\/p>\n<p>With the political sponsorship of Government agency <strong>California Air Resources<\/strong>, that gives 41 million USDThe end uses is the mobility and the finalisation is projected by 2023<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Iberdrola prepares its first 5 Hydrogen projects in the US<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For its part, the Spanish electricity company, through its subsidiary Avangrid, has presented to the United States Department of Energy five hydrogen projects for Connecticut, New York, Maine, Oregon and the Gulf Coast. According to information published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eleconomista.es\/energia\/noticias\/11315750\/07\/21\/Iberdrola-prepara-sus-cinco-primeros-proyectos-de-hidrogeno-en-EEUU.html\">El Economista<\/a>, the company currently has installation plans in Spain, the United Kingdom and Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish power company proposes the construction of an <strong>electrolyzer and a 20 MW hydrogen storage facility<\/strong> in Connecticut. In turn, in New York, the company collaborates with the Regional Transit Service (RTS) to evaluate the opportunities to build a <strong>multi-use hydrogen production and distribution facility<\/strong>, which could support transportation uses to meet the objectives of the zero emission fleet. In Maine, the company has begun exploring how to help advance <strong>green hydrogen consumption in existing manufacturing processes<\/strong>, to enhance renewable natural gas production, and in aviation and trucking applications. And, on the Gulf Coast, Avangrid Renewables is working to <strong>develop green hydrogen and ammonia<\/strong>.
